Quick Hint #24

Making Flock Shakers

Flock shakers are one of those luxury items used by scenery makers to randomly distribute scatter material over a model. Using a shaker has the advantage that it provides a more even coverage with less clumping and helps to avoid those hard edges often caused by applying flock by hand.

Luckily you can make a small flock shaker suitable to things like figure bases or small scenery items from discarded kitchen condiment or spice jars. Simply was out the jar and leave it to dry before filling it with your chosen flock. This is especially good for things like snow where you only want a very light covering.
